Health and Nutrition Suggestions for Women
Thousands years ago Hippocrates said that we should let food be our medicine. Nothing since then has proved to be true more than this quote, since we really are what we eat. A balanced nutrition is what provides us with the fuel necessary in our ever day life in order to function better and ensures an overall well-being.
Studies and research show that some particular foods reduce the potential risk of cancer or even heart diseases, such as vegetables, grains and fruits. However at the same time they are excellent sources of energy and promote the working abilities of our constitution by enhancing the cells’ functionality.
Women who are more susceptible to illnesses are those whose nutrition and diet is either poor or imbalanced. A healthy nutrition has tangible and drastic effect not only in our immune system but also in our general mood, as it can prevent depression and other psychological illnesses.
In fact many of the foods we eat when with friends, or just enjoying a movie or a football match are known to cause depression just because they damage the balanced levels of sugar and fat in our blood. Cakes, pizzas, junk food in general are considered pleasure foods , because they are social foods and do make us feel ‘happy’ for a short period of time. However experts have come to show us the complete opposite effect they have on us in a long term basis.
The problem in this case is that we don’t eat junk and fatty food once. It is more like a habit and we tend to indulge in those damaging pleasures more and more. We think that this temporary good feeling is something that will keep happening if we eat like that.
There is some pleasure coming from eating chocolate, for instance. We know that. This happens because of the sugar levels in our blood stream are elevated very quickly and thus induces a sense of hedonism, which is in fact just a chemical reaction that lasts for maybe an hour or less.
After that the sugars and fats tend to sit on the surface of veins and arteries and create some progressively developing digestion problems, which, in turn, result in bad digestion and bigger fat absorption from our body.
Food can be addictive and the truth is that whenever you hear someone having serious food issues, there is some sort of psychological imbalance there. It’s not only that though: we teach ourselves to eat and our body gets used to this kind of eating, especially if it is repetitive. Not only we put weight on, but we feel heavier in every sense, less active, less energized and sleepier.
